AMAA’s Support to the Near East

AMAA's-Support-to-the-Near-East-(2)

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. -Matthew 25:40

Like many families experiencing similar situations of poverty, below are just three heartbreaking cases the Armenian Evangelical Social Action Committee offices face every day in Lebanon.
SugarWater bread diabetes
Evicted from their apartment and unable to provide milk for her two-and-a-half year old son with autism, a young mother turns to sugar and water to quench her infant child’s hunger just so he could sleep at night.  A tearful young father of four begs on his knees, pleading for enough money to buy bread to feed his starving children who have not eaten in two days. A young, diabetic church member without a job or medication, risks spiking his blood sugar to dangerous levels due to expensive medicine costs.

Thanks to the Social Action Committee and the Central Committee of the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE), an action plan has been developed to help meet the critical needs of 270 families in Lebanon.

To support these efforts, the AMAA has contributed $50,000 from its COVID Response Fund and committed to raise additional funds to continue the program to:

  • Extend vital sustenance funds to needy Armenian families
  • Purchase necessary household items/furniture
  • Buy groceries
  • Provide medical supplies
  • Pay for home maintenance for those who are unable to get a repair done or fix their appliances
  • Supply mothers with baby formula/milk and diapers
  • Payment of annual utility service bills for a number of families that have not been able to pay due to the ongoing economic turmoil and COVID-19

Fueled by an economic collapse, the effects of the COVID Pandemic and political instability, AMAA remains committed to help alleviate the financial hardships facing our brothers and sisters in the Near East; especially in Lebanon.
