Haigazian University Board of Trustees Hold Annual Meeting

Members of the Haigazian University Board of Trustees coming from the United States and joining their Lebanese counterparts, successfully concluded their two-day annual meetings in Beirut, which took place on May 27 and 28, 2016.

In parallel, a fellowship dinner brought together the Haigazian University family and its friends at the recently renovated Hotel Le Bristol in Hamra, Beirut.  Among the attendees, also were present, Ambassadors of the USA, Richard Jones, and of Armenia, Samvel Mgrdchyan.

On this special occasion, and in line with its core commitments and values, University President, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian announced the launching of a new undergraduate major in “Special Education”.

Haidostian reiterated the purpose of the B.A. in Education with Emphasis in Special Education, as being the “track that provides tomorrow’s educators with a more comprehensive academic coverage in line with the global focus on acceptance of diversity and tolerance of differences.”

Jordan Conference Group

-On March 21, the Social and Behavioral Sciences Society joined that global movement by inviting five young women with Down Syndrome to spend some time on campus, along with their coach.  The same department hosted a very special presentation on April 1, 2016, to dispel the myths and misinformation surrounding mental illness in the Lebanese society, and on April 14th the students celebrated the International Month of Autism.

-On Saturday April the 2nd, the Mathematical and Computer Sciences Division organized its First Annual Programming Cup for High School Students, with the participation of more than 50 secondary students from 20 different Lebanese schools from all over Lebanon, and on April 7th, Haigazian University hosted an “Oil and Gas student conference-debate” organized by Front Page Communication in collaboration with the Forum for National Dialogue (FFND) and the 90-minute conference was broadcasted live on the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBCI). Later in April, the Faculty of Business and Economics organized a one day seminar on “Family Businesses”.

Haigazian Team at Inter-University Tournament in Athens, Greece

-Student club events included a Sports team participation in an inter-university tournament in Athens, the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, the special worship celebration of Easter as part of the regular Wednesday chapels services, fundraising events for Artzakh, the renovation of the Home of Hope, and the performance of the music, dance and drama clubs.

-The Armenian Diaspora Research Center organized an international conference on the “Armenians of Jordan”, and the Campus Ministry organized a two day seminar on the “Interreligious and Intercultural Relations in a time of Conflict and Migration in the MENA Region” in cooperation with the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University in Minnesota.
