It is with great sorrow that we share the unfortunate news of the passing of Peter Kougasian, Esq. on Monday, September 6, 2021. Peter was an elected member of the AMAA Board since 1996, serving as both Vice President and as Chairman of the Armenia Committee. He also served as Moderator of the Armenian Evangelical Church of New York for many years.

Peter was Assistant District Attorney in New York. Joining the office on August 13, 1979, he continued working with the District Attorney’s office and the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor as Bureau Chief in the Trial Division for his entire career. On September 27, 2019, the office paid tribute to Peter, by naming the Office of Legal Training, in his honor, recognizing his four decades of service as a Prosecutor and his commitment to Criminal Justice.

Peter was also a professional Comedy and Close-up Magician, who invented magic tricks and performed regularly in the New York City magic scene as “Uncle Pete.”

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Beth Kougasian and his son Alex. A small, private family funeral service will be live-streamed on Saturday, September 25, at 11:00am EST.
