US Ambassador Richard M. Mills, Jr. Visited Avedisian High School

At the invitation of the Armenian Missionary Association of America and the Khoren & Shooshanig Avedisian School and Community Center, Mr. Richard Mills, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Armenia visited the Avedisian Educational Complex on April 5 2017. He was accompanied by Hasmik and Dianna who coordinate the educational programs of the Embassy. Three students gave the Ambassador a tour of the school facilities showing him the solar panels, the classrooms, the labs, the robotics facilities, the library, the trash museum and the gymnasium. The Ambassador chatted with the students working in the labs asking them about their work and interests. The tour guides informed the Ambassador of the formal and non-formal educational programs of the school.
Following the tour Mr. Mills, met with the High School students in a friendly atmosphere. The Ambassador addressed the students expressing his admiration of the school and told them about the importance of students feeling free to ask questions and think for themselves. He expressed his admiration for the environmentally friendly building and the environmental practices of the school. This was one reason why many innovations take place in America. He then invited the students to ask questions. The students expressed their concerns about the educational systems in both countries, asked numerous questions and got comprehensive answers. Mr. Mills was indeed impressed with the students’ knowledge, social skills and fluency in the English language. He congratulated the Principal Melanya Geghamyan for the outstanding education that the school provides. He invited the students to visit the US Embassy Facebook page and learn about various educational and exchange programs.
