As a result of the of the War in Ukraine, urgent humanitarian assistance is necessary to help Armenian victims of the war who have fled the country and sought refuge and safe haven in the neighboring countries. After assessing the situation, the AMAA Board appropriated emergency funds to reach out to the refugees in Bulgaria through the local Armenian Evangelical Churches. Needs in other areas are being assessed.

Badveli Nerses Ketikian, the Pastor of the Armenian Evangelical Church of Varna reports (March 7, 2022).

“On Sunday, after church we went to the Ukrainian Immigration Aid Center where the refugees were registered as immigrants. We met with 54 of them. They are all provided with boarding houses on the seafront. The issue of their food will be taken care of by the end of the day. Hot meals will be prepared for them in the boarding house. We will take care of their accommodation and food in coordination with the Ukrainian Refugee Aid Center. We gathered together with the refugees in the hallways, praying and praising the Lord for his Fatherly love and mercy.

In the group there are women, one of whom is expecting a child and about 12 young boys. Today, we will try to take a doctor to them so that everyone can be checked and we can be sure that they have no health problems. One or two of them will probably leave for Armenia. We will help them with their travel expenses.

Everyone is grateful to the AMAA for this immediate humanitarian support.”

Ուքրանական պատերազմի հետեւանքով շտապ մարդասիրական օժանդակութիւն անհրաժեշտ է՝ օգնելու հարեւան երկիրներու մէջ ապաստան եւ ապահովութիւն փնտռող պատերազմի զոհերուն։ Իրավիճակը գնահատելէ ետք, Ամերիկայի Հայ Աւետարանչական Ընկերակցութեան Վարչութիւնը շտապ օգնութեան անհրաժեշտ պիւտճէ մը յատկացուց Պուլկարիա հասած գաղթականներուն՝ տեղական Հայ Աւետարանական Եկեղեցիներուն միջոցով։ Աւետարանչականը պիտի գնահատէ նաեւ կարիքներու այլ ոլորտներ։

Այս մասին Վառնայի Հայ Աւետարանական Եկեղեցիի հովիւ՝ Պատուելի Ներսէս Կէտիկեան կը գրէ (Մարտ 7, 2022):

«Կիրակի օր, Եկեղեցւոյ պաշտամունքէն ետք գացինք Ուքրանիայի Գաղթականներու Կեդրոնը, ուր փախստականները գրանցուած են որպէս գաղթական։ Հանդիպեցանք անոնցմէ 54-ին հետ, որոնց բոլորին յատկացուած է ծովափին գտնուող յատուկ հանգստեան տուներ (pension)։ Շուտով անոնց սնունդի հարցը կը լուծուի։ Մինչեւ օրուան վերջը անոնց համար պիտի պատրաստուին տաք ճաշեր։ Մենք պիտի հոգանք անոնց բնակութեան եւ սնունդի հարցերը, Ուքրանիայի Գաղթականներու Օգնութեան Կեդրոնին հետ գործակցաբար։ Գաղթականներուն հետ մենք հաւաքուեցանք հանգստեան տուներու միջանցքներուն մէջ եւ աղօթեցինք եւ գովաբանեցինք զԱստուած իր հայրական սիրոյ եւ ողորմութեան համար։

Գաղթականներու խումբին մէջ կային կանայք, որոնցմէ մէկը կը սպասէ երեխայի եւ մօտ 12 փոքրիկ տղաք։ Այսօր մենք պիտի փորձենք բժիշկ տանիլ անոնց մօտ, որպէսզի բոլորը քննուին եւ վստահ ըլլանք որ անոնք առողջական խնդիրներ չունին։ Անոնցմէ մէկ երկուքը հաւանաբար պիտի ուզեն Հայաստան մեկնիլ։ Մենք պիտի օգնենք անոնց ճանապարհածախսի հարցով։

Բոլոր գաղթականները երախտապարտ են Աւետարանչականին այս անմիջական մարդասիրական աջակցութեան համար»։

Badveli Nerses Ketikian, Pastor of the Armenian Evangelical Church in Varna, continues to report on the assistance provided to Ukrainian-Armenian refugees in Bulgaria with the initiative and support of the AMAA (March 9, 2022).

“Yesterday and today were busy days. Most of the problems of the refugees were resolved thanks to God and the support and prayers of AMAA.

I visited the refugees in their rooms and recorded all their needs. At my request, the management of the Boarding House/Pension provided them with additional 20 blankets. The water leaks in the bathrooms and the heaters were repaired. We also bought six portable heaters so that everyone would be warm at night, as many had been cold the day before. We also provided electric kettles, bathroom floor mops and electric lamps.

Not all of their food issues have been finalized yet. As the food provided by the State Aid Center was not sufficient we had to buy extra from the store.

The Boarding House/Pension is owned by the Bulgaria State Electric Company. Today, the Directors of the Company will have a meeting to ensure regular delivery of food in addition to the food provided by the State.

The Lord works miraculously. Yesterday, with the help of the Armenian Consul in Bulgaria, we were able to help a young Armenian refugee to return to Armenia by boat. We are expecting the arrival of three more families who want to take refuge in Varna.

I also plan to make an appeal for local donations for the refugees.

We are grateful to the AMAA for standing by us and serving the Lord by giving ‘a cup of cold water to one of these little ones.’ (Matthew 10:42)”

Պատուելի Ներսէս Կէտիկեան, Վառնայի Հայ Աւետարանական Եկեղեցւոյ Հովիւը կը շարունակէ հաղորդագրել Պուլկարիա հասած Ուքրանահայ գաղթականներու օգնութեան գործին մասին՝ Ամերիկայի Հայ Աւետարանչական Ընկերակցութեան նախաձեռնութեամբ եւ աջակցութեամբ (Մարտ 9, 2022)։

«Երեկ եւ այսօր շատ ծանրաբեռնուած օրեր ունեցայ: Այս երկու օրերու ընթացքին մեր գաղթականներու խնդիրներուն մեծ մասը Տէրոջը օրհնութեամբ եւ Աւետարանչականի աջակցութեամբ ու աղօթքներով կարգադրուեցան:

Այցելեցի զանոնք սենեակ առ սենեակ եւ արձանագրեցի իրենց բոլոր կարիքները:

Իմ խնդրանքով Հանգստեան Տան (pension) ղեկավարութիւնը անոնց ապահովեց եւս 20 ծածկոցներ: Վերանորոգուեցան բոլոր այն բաղնիքները ուր ջուրի հոսքեր կային եւ նորոգուեցան ջեռուցիչները։ Որոշ սենեակներուն համար՝ թիւով վեց, գնեցինք շարժուն ջեռուցիչներ որպէսզի գիշերը բոլորն ալ տաքութիւն ունենան, քանի օր մը առաջ շատեր մրսած էին։

Գաղթականներուն համար հայթայթեցինք նաեւ ելեքտրական թեյնիկներ, բաղնիքներու յատակը չորցնող յարմարութիւններ եւ էլեքտրական լամբեր:

Տակաւին վերջնական կարգադրուած չէ անոնց բոլոր սննդեղենի խնդիրը: Պետական օգնութեան կեդրոնէն Հանգստեան Տան ճաշարանին շատ քիչ մթերքներ ղրկուած էին եւ ես այս առտու խանութէն գնեցի լրացուցիչ մթերքներ, որպէսզի մինչեւ վաղը կէսօր անոնք ապահովուած ըլլան կերակուրով:

Հանգստեան Տունը Պուլկարիոյ պետական ելեքտրական ընկերութեան կը պատկանի: Այսօր Ընկերութեան տնօրէնները ժողով պիտի ունենան եւ իմ խնդրանքով պիտի քննեն որ իրենց կողմէ եւս պարբերաբար ճաշարանին մթերքներու առաքում ապահովեն, պետութեան հայթայթած մթերքներու կողքին։

Տէրը հրաշալի կերպով կը գործէ մեր այս աշխատանքներուն մէջ։ Երեկ Պուլկարիոյ Հայաստանի հիւպատոսին միջոցով կրցանք օգնել բնիկ հայաստանցի գաղթական երիտասարդի մը որ նաւով վերադառնայ Հայաստան։

Այս քանի մը օրերուն կը սպասենք նաեւ երեք ընտանիքներու՝ որոնք կ’ուզեն ապաստանիլ Վառնայի մէջ։

Կը ծրագրեմ տեղական նուիրատուութիւններ եւս ձեռք ձգել Հայ գաղթականներուն համար։

Դարձեալ շնորհակալութիւն Հայ Աւետարանչական Ընկերակցութեան որ մեր կողքին է եւ միասնաբար կը ծառայենք Տէրոջը “այս պզտիկներէն մէկուն միայն գաւաթ մը պաղ ջուր” խմցնելով (Մատթէոս 10. 42)։»

“Today was another busy day. There was an issue with food delivery. I met with the director of the Ukranian Refugee Center to discuss the delay. It turned out that they had a problem with transportation and could not deliver food on time. We offered to provide a car so that the delivery would be on time and be also useful to the additional 60 Ukrainians living in the same Boarding house. We learned that the hot water pump was not working. With the management of the Boarding house we will install another pump so that our brothers and sisters will have hot water tomorrow. Also we supported an Armenian family in Ukraine and help them purchase their daily needs.

It is a great joy for us to know that you by our side in our service and praying for us.”

«Այսօր դարձեալ զբաղ օր մըն էր։ Գաղթականներու ճաշի հարցով հանդիպեցայ Ուքրանիայի գաղթականներու կեդրոնի տնօրէնին հետ ճաշի մատակարարման ուշացման հարցով։ Պարզուեցաւ որ անոնք ինքնաշարժերու խնդիր ունին եւ չեն հասցներ ճաշի մատակարարումը։ Որոշեցինք մենք ալ ինքնաշարժ տրամադրել որպէսզի մատակարարումը ժամանակին ըլլայ եւ օգտակար ըլլանք նաեւ նոյն Հանգստեան տան մէջ ապրող 60 ազգութեամբ ուքրանացիներուն ալ։ Իմացանք որ երեք գիշեր տաք ջուրի ջրհանը աւրուած էր։ Հանգստեան տան տնօրէնութեան հետ պիտի փոխենք ջրանը որպէսզի վաղը մեր եղբայրները եւ քոյրերը տաք ջուր ունենան։

Մենք կրցանք նաեւ նիւթապէս օգտակար ըլլալ Ուքրանիա մնացած հայ ընտանիքի մը որպէսզի կարենան ապահովել իրենց առօրեայ կարիքները։

Մեզի համար անսահման ուրախութիւն է գիտնալ որ մեր կողքին էք մեր ծառայութեան մէջ եւ կ’աղօթէք մեզի համար։»

Badveli Nerses Ketikian, Pastor of the Armenian Evangelical Church of Varna, Bulgaria, continues to send us updates about their service to our Ukranian-Armenian refugees, with the support and financial assistance provided by the AMAA (March 12, 2022).

“Dear brothers and sisters,

We continue to serve our Ukrainian-Armenian refugees. The issue of their nutrition is almost resolved. I spent a few hours with Relief Center’s distribution manager and developed a warm personal friendship. He is originally from Ukraine and loves Armenia and Armenians. There are certain food items that the Center does not provide, such as meat, eggs, cheese, etc., which are stored in refrigerators. We purchase those and deliver them to the refugees.

I arranged for a doctor from the local Methodist Church to visit the refugees at the Boarding house. She examined all of them and provided prescriptions to those in need and got their medications free of charge. Thank God there are no serious health issues.

I am in constant contact with the director of the Boarding house and the other employees. They all love and sympathize with the refugees.

Tomorrow the Ukrainian-Armenian refugees will come and participate in our Sunday Worship Service.

We will continue our service, relying on the mercy of our Lord, as well as your prayers and support.”

Պուլկար Մէթոտիսթ եկեղեցիէն բժշկուհի մը տարի Հանգստեան տուն։ Ան բոլորը բժշկական քննութենէ անցուց եւ անոնք որոնք դեղերու կարիք ունին, դեղատոմսեր տրամադրեց որպէսզի կարենան անվճառ իրենց դեղերը ունենալ։ Փառք Աստուծոյ լուրջ առողջական խնդիրներ չկան։

Հանգստեան տան տնօրէնին եւ միւս աշխատակիցներուն հետ անդադար կապի մէջ եմ։ Անոնք բոլորն ալ շատ սիրով կը վերաբերուին գաղթականներուն հետ։

Վաղը՝ Կիրակի օրուան Պաշտամունքին հրաւիրած եմ Ուքրանահայ գաղթականները, որոնք մեծ սիրով պիտի գան եւ ներկայ ըլլան։

With the support and financial assistance of AMAA, Badveli Nerses Ketikian, Pastor of the Armenian Evangelical Church of Varna, continues his faithful service to Ukrainian-Armenian refugees in Bulgaria.

Today (March 16, 2022) we received his last update where he writes: “Last week, I made an appeal to our local community to support us in our efforts providing immediate assistance to Ukrainian-Armenian refugees. Many have already contacted us with their donation of food stuff and visiting the refugees. The food issue is completely resolved now. From the Ukranian Refugee Center, non-perishable dry food is sent every day, and with the AMAA’s financial assistance we purchase additional food that needs refrigeration (meat, cheese, milk, vegetables, fruits etc.). The cooks in the Boarding house, together with our volunteer Armenian women, prepare hot meal three times a day.

Sunday was a very blessed day for us. About 30 people from the refugees, for the first time worshipped at an Evangelical Church. Tears, excitement, prayer, praise, gratitude. After the service many approached me saying how blessed they were.

I am in touch with our churches in other cities in Bulgaria to find out if there are any refugees there and if they need our help.”

Այսօր (Մարտ 16, 2022) ստացանք իր վերջին հաղորդագրութիւնը ուր ան կը գրէ.- «Անցեալ շաբաթ հակիրճ կերպով կոչ ուղղեցի մեր գաղութին որ զօրավիգ կ’անգնին մեզի Ուքրանահայ գաղթականներու մեր շտապ օգնութեան ջանքերուն։ Արդէն շատեր մեզի հետ կապ հաստատեցին սնունդի նուիրատուութիւններով եւ գաղթականներուն այցելելու գծով։ Սնունդի հարցը արդէն ամբողջութեամբ լուծուած է։ Գաղթականներու կեդրոնէն ամէն օր չփճացող չորեղէն ուտեստեղէն կը ղրկոււի իսկ մենք լրացուցիչ սառնարանի կարիք ունեցող ուտեստեղէնները (միս, պանիր, կաթ, պտուղ, բանջարեղէն եւայլն) կը գնենք Աւետարանչականի նիւթական օգնութեամբ։ Հանգստեան տան մէջ խոհարարները մեր կամաւոր հայ կիներուն հետ միատեղ օրական երեք անգամ տաք ճաշ կը պատրաստեն գաղթականներուն։

Կիրակի օրը շատ օրհնաբեր օր մըն էր։ Հայ գաղթականնրէն շուրջ 30 հոգիներ, առաջին անգամ ըլլալով ներկայ եղան Աւետարանական Եկեղեցիի պաշտամունքի։ Արցունք, յուզմունք, աղօթք, փառաբանութիւն, գոհութիւն։ Բոլոր ներկաները շատ օրհնուած վերադարձան Հանգստեան տուն։

Պուլկարիոյ միւս քաղաքներու մեր եկեղեցիներուն հետ կապի մէջ եմ իմանալու թէ այդ տեղերն ալ գաղթականներ կա՞ն եւ եթէ մեր օգնութեան կարիքը ունին։»

EASTER CELERBRATION WITH UKRAINIAN-ARMENIAN REFUGEES IN BULGARIA

This year, in the Armenian Community of Varna, Bulgaria, the Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus Christ was celebrated in an unprecedented way.

On Easter Sunday at 1 pm a special Easter Worship Service was held at the Armenian Evangelical Methodist Church of Varna with a large number of church members in attendance as well as the Ukrainian-Armenian refugees who currently have found refuge in the city. Hymns and songs of praise were sung during the Service with scripture readings and a special message about the mystery of the resurrection of our savior Jesus Christ delivered by Pastor Nerses Ketikian, Pastor of Varna Church. The Service concluded with the Benediction offered by Rev. Bedros Altunian, Senior Pastor of Varna Church and the Chairman of the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in Bulgaria (UAECB). It was an emotional experience for all.

After the Worship Service, a special Easter Luncheon was held where about 230 people participated, 150 of whom were Ukrainian refugees. Most of the expenses of the meal were covered by several local Armenian families in Varna. The honorary guests of the Easter Luncheon were the Chairman of the UAECB Rev. Bedros Altunian, the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Romania and Bulgaria Bishop Datev Hagopian, Fr. Yeznig Torkomian from Romania, the Chairman of the Parish Council of St. Sarkis Church Masis Baghdadian, the Chairman of the Union of Armenians of Bulgaria Haroutune Hovsepian, the Chairman of AGBU Varna Chapter Kevork Krikorian, the sponsors of the Luncheon and other dignitaries.

The representatives of the Armenian community as well as Ukrainian-Armenian brothers and sisters consistently praised the invaluable service of the AMAA and the Varna Church for the Ukrainian-Armenian brothers and sisters.

We thank God that through our Varna Church we were able to bring some Easter joy to our Ukrainian-Armenian compatriots.

ՍՈՒՐԲ ԶԱՏԿՈՒԱՅ ՏՕՆԸ ՎԱՌՆԱՅԻ ՄԷՋ՝ ՈՒՔՐԱՆԱՀԱՅ ԳԱՂԹԱԿԱՆՆԵՐՈՒՆ ՀԵՏ

Զատկուայ Կիրակի օրը կէսօրէն ետք ժամը 1։00-ին Վառայի Հայ Աւետարանական Եկեղեցիին մէջ տեղի ունեցաւ Զատկուայ յատուկ պաշտամունք մը, որու ներկայ էին մեծ թիւով եկեղեցիի անդամներ, ինչպէս նաեւ Վառնա քաղաքին մէջ ապաստան գտած Ուքրանահայ գաղթականներ։ Պաշտամունքի ընթացքին երգուեցան շարականներ եւ հոգեւոր երգեր, եղան Սուրբ Գրային ընթերցումներ եւ մեր Փրկիչ Յիսուս Քրիստոսի Յարութեան խորհուրդին մասին յատուկ պատգամ՝ Եկեղեցիի հովիւ Պատուելի Ներսէս Կէտիկեանի կողմէ։ Պաշտամունքը վերջացաւ Եկեղեցւոյ Աւագ Հովիւ եւ Պուլկարիոյ Հայ Աւետարանական Եկեղեցիներու Միութեան Ատենապետ Վեր. Պետրոս Ալթունեանի օրհնութեան աղօթքով։ Բոլոր ներկաները զգացուեցան եւ օրհնուեցան այս գեղեցիկ պաշտամունքէն։

Պաշտամունքէն ետք տեղի ունեցաւ Զատկուայ յատուկ սիրոյ ճաշ մը, որուն մասնակցեցան մօտ 230 հոգիներ՝ որոնցմէ 150-ը Ուքրանահայեր էին։ Ճաշի ծախսերուն մեծ մասը հոգացին Վառնայէն քանի մը Հայ ընտանիքներ։ Սիրոյ Ճաշի պատուոյ հիւրերն էին Վեր. Պետրոս Ալթունեան՝ Պուլկարիոյ Հայ Աւետարանական Եկեղեցիներու Միութեան Ատենապետը, Տաթեւ Եպս. Յակոբեան՝ Ռումանիոյ եւ Պուլղարիոյ Հայոց Թեմի Առաջնորդ, Ռումանիայէն Տէր Եզնիկ քհն. Թորգոմյան, Մասիս Պաղտատեան՝ Սուրբ Սարգիս Եկեղեցւոյ Ծխական Խորհուրդի Ատենապետ, Յարութիւն Յովսէփեան՝ Պուլկարիոյ Հայերու Միութեան Ատենապետ, Գեւորգ Գրիգորեան՝ ՀԲԸՄ-ի Վառնայի մասնաճիւղի Ատենապետ, Ճաշի հովանաւորներ եւ այլ բարձրաստիճան անձիք։

Հայ համայնքի ներկայացուցիչները, ինչպէս նաեւ Ուքրանահայ մեր եղբայրները ու քոյրերը հետեւողականորէն բարձր գնահատեցին Աւետարանչականի եւ Վառնայի Եկեղեցիի անգնահատելի ծառայութիւնը Ուքրանահայ գաղթականներուն։

Փառք կու տանք Աստուծոյ, որ մեր Վառնայի Եկեղեցիին միջոցով կարողացանք Սուրբ Զատկուայ ուրախութիւնը պարգեւել մեր Ուքրանահայ հայրենակիցներուն։
